Product Overview
N2XBH Cable is a 0.6/1kV XLPE-insulated power cable with double galvanized steel tape armor and HFFR (Halogen-Free Flame Retardant) / LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) outer sheath. VDE naming: N = standard type, 2X = XLPE insulation, B = steel tape armor, H = halogen-free. Unlike N2XB2Y which uses an HDPE sheath, N2XBH uses an LSZH compound — making it the mandatory cable type for public buildings, hospitals, schools, cinemas, tunnels, and any installation where fire safety regulations prohibit halogenated materials. In a fire, N2XBH emits very low smoke (IEC 61034) and no corrosive halogen gases (IEC 60754), protecting both human evacuation routes and sensitive electronic equipment.
N2XB2Y vs N2XBH: Sheath Selection Guide
| Property | N2XB2Y (HDPE Sheath) | N2XBH (HFFR/LSZH Sheath) |
|---|---|---|
| Sheath Material | HDPE (2Y) | HFFR / LSZH (H) |
| Halogen Content | None in HDPE itself | Zero halogen — IEC 60754 certified |
| Smoke Emission | Standard | Very low — IEC 61034 certified |
| Corrosive Gas in Fire | Low (no PVC) | None — passes IEC 60754-2 |
| Flame Retardancy | Single cable (EN 60332-1-2) | Bundled cable Cat. C (IEC 60332-3-24) |
| Moisture Resistance | Excellent | Good — but HDPE is superior for permanent immersion |
| Primary Application | Direct burial, wet/chemical environments | High-occupancy buildings, fire safety zones |
Cable Construction
Copper Conductor
Class 2 stranded copper per EN 60228. Suitable for fixed installation in power distribution networks.

Typical Applications
N2XBH is specified wherever fire safety regulations mandate LSZH cables — particularly in high-occupancy buildings and critical infrastructure:
Hospitals & Healthcare
Mandatory in operating theaters, ICUs, and patient wards. LSZH prevents toxic gas exposure to immobile patients during evacuation.
Schools & Universities
High-occupancy educational buildings. Building codes in EU increasingly mandate LSZH for all new school construction.
Cinemas & Theaters
Enclosed public assembly spaces with limited exits. Smoke from PVC cables is the leading cause of fire deaths in theaters.
Shopping Centers
Large undivided spaces where smoke spread is rapid. LSZH maintains visibility for evacuation routes.
Tunnels & Metro Stations
Underground spaces where smoke extraction is limited. LSZH is mandatory in EU tunnel safety directives.
Data Centers
Halogen gases corrode circuit boards and server contacts within minutes. LSZH protects millions in IT equipment during a fire event.
