Product Overview

Duplex URD Cable is a 600V secondary underground residential distribution cable with one aluminium phase conductor and one aluminium neutral, both XLPE insulated and cabled in a duplex assembly. Manufactured to ICEA S-105-692 and UL 854 as UL Listed USE-2, RUS accepted. Conductors are Class B compressed concentric lay stranded 1350-H19 or AA-8000 aluminium alloy per ASTM B231 / B800 / B801. The phase conductor is black XLPE; the neutral is also black XLPE identified by yellow striping or full yellow jacket. Rated 90°C dry, wet, and direct burial. Duplex is the simplest URD configuration — one phase + one neutral — used for 120V two-wire service drops and street lighting circuits where only single-phase power is required. Four code-name variants from AWG 8 to AWG 2 cover the full residential service entrance range.

1

Aluminium 1350 / AA-8000

Class B compressed concentric lay. 1350-H19 or AA-8000 alloy per ASTM B231/B800/B801. AWG 8 to AWG 2, all 7-strand construction.

2

XLPE Insulation (USE-2)

Black thermoset XLPE, 60 mils uniform thickness. 90°C dry/wet/direct burial. UL Listed USE-2. Heat, ozone, oil, and chemical resistant.

3

1-Phase + Neutral (Duplex)

One black phase conductor + one concentric neutral with yellow stripe. 120V two-wire service — simplest URD configuration for single-phase loads.

4

600V Secondary Rated

Rated 600V for underground secondary distribution. Direct burial or duct installation, wet and dry locations.

5

Full-Size Neutral

All four code names use matching phase and neutral AWG sizes (full neutral, not reduced). Simplifies inventory and ensures fault current capacity.

6

UL / RUS Certified

UL Listed USE-2. RUS accepted for federally funded rural electric projects. ICEA S-105-692 compliant for utility URD installations.

Full neutral design: All Duplex variants use matching phase and neutral AWG sizes (8+8, 6+6, 4+4, 2+2) — no reduced neutral configurations. This contrasts with Triplex and Quadruplex where reduced-neutral code names are common. Uniform 60 mils XLPE insulation across all sizes. Ampacity values marked with * in the original source — exact derating conditions were not specified on the reference page. Units: 1 mil = 0.001 inch = 0.0254 mm. Weight: 1 lb/kft ≈ 1.488 kg/km.

Typical Applications

Duplex URD is the simplest underground service cable — one phase plus one neutral — for two-wire 120V circuits where only single-phase power is needed. Commonly used for street lighting, individual circuits, and service loops where a Triplex or Quadruplex would be oversized:

💡

Street Lighting

120V two-wire underground circuits for municipal street lighting and area illumination where only single-phase power is required.

🏠

Small Service Drops

120V service to small loads such as signs, pumps, irrigation controllers, and outbuildings that don't require split-phase 240V.

🌱

Direct Burial

Rated for direct earth burial without conduit. XLPE insulation resists soil acids, moisture, and chemicals for decades of underground service.

🔌

Duct Installation

Suitable for pulling through underground ducts in both wet and dry locations. USE-2 listing covers all underground service entrance scenarios.

🇺🇸

US Utility Networks

ICEA S-105-692 and RUS accepted. Standard cable for US utility single-phase underground secondary circuits.

🏗️

Rural Electrification

RUS accepted for USDA-funded projects. Cost-effective aluminium conductor for rural single-phase underground service drops.
