Product Overview
E-YY Cable is a 0.6/1kV PVC-insulated, PVC-sheathed unarmored power cable per the Austrian/German VDE designation system. The "E" prefix denotes a heavy-current power cable per VDE, and "YY" indicates PVC insulation + PVC sheath. It is widely used in Austria, Germany, and Central European markets for fixed indoor and outdoor power distribution where no mechanical protection is required. E-YY is functionally identical to NYY in Germany and CYKY in Poland — the designation differs only by national standard body, not by physical construction.
Regional Naming Equivalents
All of the following designations refer to the same cable construction (copper conductor, PVC insulation, PVC sheath, 0.6/1kV, unarmored):
| Region | Designation | Key Standard | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Austria / VDE Region | E-YY | ÖVE-K 603, HD 603 S1 | E = heavy-current power cable, YY = PVC/PVC |
| Germany / DIN Region | NYY | DIN VDE 0276-603 | Most common VDE designation for this construction |
| Poland / Central Europe | CYKY | PNE 34 7659-3 | C = copper, Y = PVC insulation, K = cable |
| France / NFC Region | U-1000 R2V | NF C 32-321 | PVC/PVC equivalent, often with numbered cores |
| China | VV | GB/T 12706.1 | V = PVC insulation, V = PVC sheath |
| International / IEC | IEC 60502-1 PVC Cable | IEC 60502-1 | Generic international designation |
Cable Construction
Copper Conductor
Bare copper, solid (RE, Class 1) for ≤10 mm² or stranded (RM/SM, Class 2) for ≥16 mm², per DIN EN 60228 / IEC 60228.
PVC Insulation
PVC compound per HD 603 S1. Continuous conductor temperature 70°C. Short-circuit temperature up to 160°C (max 5 seconds).
Core Filler / Bedding
PVC core covering or plastic binding tape applied over the laid-up cores for multi-core cables, ensuring roundness.
PVC Outer Sheath
PVC compound, black (standard), UV-resistant. Flame-retardant per EN 60332-1-2. Resistant to oils, acids, and moisture.

Applicable Standards & Certifications
E-YY cables are manufactured to comply with the following standards. Qiangli can certify production to any combination of these based on project destination and local authority requirements.
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| ÖVE-K 603 | Austrian national standard for PVC-insulated heavy-current cables rated 0.6/1kV. The primary standard for E-YY designation. |
| HD 603 S1 | CENELEC Harmonization Document — base document for national standards across EU/EEA countries. All national variants (ÖVE, DIN VDE, PNE) are derived from HD 603. |
| DIN EN 60228 / IEC 60228 | Conductors of insulated cables — defines Class 1 (RE, solid) and Class 2 (RM/SM, stranded) conductor specifications. |
| HD 308 S2 | Core identification colors. Defines the color coding scheme used across CENELEC countries. |
| IEC 60502-1 | International standard for power cables with extruded insulation, 1kV to 30kV. Accepted in 90+ countries globally. |
| EN 60332-1-2 | Flame propagation test for single cable — E-YY meets this requirement for indoor fire safety. |
| DIN VDE 0276-603 | German equivalent standard (NYY cable). For projects in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. |
| GB/T 12706.1 | Chinese national standard. VV (PVC/PVC) is the equivalent designation under this standard. |
Technical Specifications
RE = round solid conductor (Class 1). RM = round stranded (Class 2). SM = sector-shaped compacted stranded (Class 2). For cables marked "+" (e.g. 3×50/25), the second value is the reduced earth/neutral cross-section. Copper figure = copper weight per km of conductor only.
