Product Overview
ZR-YJV Cable is a flame-retardant 0.6/1kV power cable with XLPE insulation and PVC sheath, manufactured per China's national standard GB/T 12706.1. The designation follows Chinese cable naming convention: ZR = flame retardant, YJ = XLPE insulation, V = PVC sheath. It is available in both copper (Cu) and aluminum (Al) conductor variants, making it the dominant power cable type in China's domestic construction and industrial markets as well as Belt & Road export projects.
Flame Retardant Classification
ZR-YJV is tested per GB/T 18380 (equivalent to IEC 60332) for flame propagation. The ZR designation can be further specified to tighter sub-classes:
| Designation | Flame Retardant Class | Test Standard | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| ZR-YJV (ZR) | General flame retardant — Grade C | GB/T 18380.33 / IEC 60332-3-23 | Standard commercial buildings, indoor cable trays |
| ZB-YJV (ZB) | Enhanced flame retardant — Grade B | GB/T 18380.34 / IEC 60332-3-22 | High-occupancy buildings, hospitals, data centers |
| ZA-YJV (ZA) | Highest flame retardant — Grade A | GB/T 18380.35 / IEC 60332-3-21 | Critical infrastructure, subways, tunnels, nuclear plants |
Copper vs Aluminum Conductor
ZR-YJV is widely available in both conductor materials. The choice depends on project budget, weight constraints, and termination requirements:
| Property | Copper (Cu) | Aluminum (Al) |
|---|---|---|
| Conductivity (IACS) | 100% | ~61% |
| Weight (same ampacity) | Reference | ~50% lighter |
| Cost (same ampacity) | Higher | ~40-60% lower |
| Corrosion Resistance | Excellent — self-passivating | Good — requires proper termination with anti-oxidation compound |
| Termination | Standard copper lugs | Requires bi-metallic Cu/Al lugs |
| Typical Market | Critical circuits, short runs, marine | Bulk distribution, long runs, cost-driven projects |
Regional Naming Equivalents
ZR-YJV is the Chinese GB/T designation. The same physical construction is known by different names globally. All have XLPE insulation + PVC sheath, flame-retardant:

| Number of Cores | Standard Core Colors (GB/T 6995) | Alternative Scheme |
|---|---|---|
| 1-core | Black or Brown | — |
| 2-core | Red, Blue | Blue, Brown |
| 3-core | Red, Yellow, Blue | Brown, Black, Grey |
| 4-core | Red, Yellow, Blue, Green | Blue, Brown, Black, Grey |
| 5-core | Red, Yellow, Blue, Green + Yellow/Green | Blue, Brown, Black, Grey + Yellow/Green |
Technical Specifications
All values per GB/T 12706.1. Cu = copper conductor; Al = aluminum conductor. Sections marked "*" use solid (Class 1) conductor per GB/T 3956. For aluminum conductor cables, add "YJLV" to the order designation. Flame retardant class defaults to ZR (Grade C) unless ZB or ZA is specified.
