Product Overview

RVFV-K Cable is a 0.6/1kV flexible armored power cable available in single-core through 61-core configurations. Naming: R = flexible Class 5 conductor, V = XLPE insulation, FV = tape armor (steel or aluminium), K = flexible for fixed installation. It is the general-purpose flexible armored cable — single-core versions use non-magnetic aluminium tape to prevent eddy current heating, while multi-core versions (both steel and aluminium tape are acceptable) since opposing magnetic fields from balanced phases cancel out. The Class 5 finely stranded conductor gives a bend radius of only 5 × D for single-core and 6-8 × D for multi-core — the most flexible armored cable family available in the 0.6/1kV range.

Cable Construction

RVFV-K Cable Cross Section

1. Conductor — Class 5 flexible copper, EN 60228
2. XLPE Insulation — 90°C rated
3. PVC Bedding — Separation sheath
4. Tape Armour — Steel or aluminium, double layer
5. PVC Outer Sheath — Flexible PVC, black

1

Flexible Copper Conductor

Class 5 finely stranded per EN 60228. Allows tight bend radii (5-8×D) impossible with Class 2 stranded cables.

2

XLPE Insulation (V)

Cross-linked polyethylene, 90°C continuous. XLPE chosen over PVC for higher current capacity in flexible armored cables.

3

PVC Bedding

Extruded PVC separation sheath between laid-up cores and armor. Provides smooth bedding surface and protects insulation.

4

Tape Armour (FV)

Double steel or aluminium tape, helically applied. Steel for multi-core (cost-effective, field-cancelling). Aluminium for single-core (non-magnetic).

5

Flexible PVC Sheath

Black flexible PVC. Maintains pliability at sub-zero temperatures while providing mechanical and chemical protection.

6

Installation Versatility

Open air, buried, in conduit. -5°C min installation, -40°C service. Meter-by-meter marking.

Applicable Standards

StandardScope
UNE 21123Spanish national standard for XLPE insulated flexible armored cables 0.6/1kV. RVFV-K and RVFAV-K are defined under this standard.
HD 603 S1CENELEC Harmonization Document for distribution cables.
IEC 60502-1International standard — 90+ countries accept IEC 60502-1 certification.
EN 60228Conductor specification — Class 5 flexible conductor requirements.
EN 60332-1Flame non-propagation — single cable vertical flame test.
EN 50575CPR fire classification. RVFV-K achieves Eca class.
G-notation explained: "5G16" = 5 cores of 16mm² each, all equal cross-section including the earth conductor. This is the Spanish/French convention (UNE 21123 / NF C 32-321) and differs from the German notation where the earth core is typically reduced. The G notation ensures the earth conductor has the same current-carrying capacity as the phase conductors, which is mandatory for certain installations under Spanish regulations.

Technical Specifications

All values per UNE 21123 / HD 603 S1. Current ratings: air 30°C, buried 20°C. Vdrop = V/A·km at 50Hz, cos φ = 0.8. "-" = not specified. For single-core applications, specify aluminium tape armor.
