Product Overview
Copper Conductor Duplex Service Drop Cable 600V is a weather-resistant overhead service drop cable consisting of two concentrically stranded soft copper conductors in a parallel ("duplex") configuration. One conductor is insulated with polyethylene (PE, 75°C) or cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE, 90°C) and carries the phase current; the other is a bare hard-drawn copper neutral messenger that supports the cable's weight between the pole and the building attachment point. The neutral messenger is the structural member — its tensile strength determines the maximum span length. Duplex service drop cable is the final link in the electrical distribution chain, connecting the pole-mounted utility transformer to the customer's service entrance head at 600V or less.
Duplex Service Drop Construction
Phase Conductor
Concentrically stranded, compressed soft copper per ASTM B-8. PE (75°C) or XLPE (90°C) insulation, 45 mils (1.143mm) thickness. Black for UV resistance.
Neutral Messenger
Bare hard-drawn copper, solid or concentrically stranded per ASTM B-1. Carries ALL mechanical tension between pole and structure. Rated strength: 777-1,280 lbs (3.5-5.7 kN).
Duplex Configuration
Insulated phase and bare neutral laid parallel with a continuous integral web. Single-cable installation — no separate messenger required.
Weather-Resistant
PE/XLPE insulation with carbon black for UV stabilisation. Suitable for continuous outdoor exposure in all climate zones.

Applicable Standards
| Standard | Scope |
|---|---|
| ASTM B-1 | Hard-drawn copper wire. Governs the bare neutral messenger — tensile strength, resistivity, and stranding. |
| ASTM B-3 | Soft or annealed copper wire. Governs the phase conductor annealing state for flexibility. |
| ASTM B-8 | Concentric-lay-stranded copper conductors, hard, medium-hard, or soft. Governs stranding of the phase conductor. |
| ANSI/ICEA S-76-474 | Standard for neutral-supported power cable assemblies (service drop). Governs duplex/triplex/quadruplex configurations. |
