Product Overview

H05V-R / H07V-R PVC Insulated Building Wire is a single-core Class 2 stranded copper conductor PVC insulated installation wire manufactured to the CENELEC harmonised standard EN 50525-2-31 and BS EN 50525-2-31. The -R suffix designates rigid stranded construction — 7-strand concentric lay for conductor sizes up to 25mm², 19-strand up to 95mm², 37-strand up to 185mm², and 61-strand for 240-400mm². This occupies the middle tier in the European harmonised wire strand flexibility spectrum: more flexible than solid -U wire (Class 1) but less flexible than -K wire (Class 5). H05V-R covers 0.75-1.5mm² at 300/500V; H07V-R covers 1.5-400mm² at 450/750V — the 1.5mm² cross-section being the overlap size available in both voltage classes.

The Class 2 7-strand construction gives H05V-R/H07V-R the ideal balance for conduit and trunking installations: flexible enough to pull through 90-degree conduit bends without kinking, yet structured enough to hold its shape on cable trays and ladder racks without sagging. The minimum bending radius of 4×D (≤6mm OD) to 8×D (>12mm OD) represents a graduated scale — small H05V-R signal wires (0.75mm², 2.8mm OD) bend to just 11mm radius, while the heavy 400mm² H07V-R (33.5mm OD) requires 268mm. The PVC insulation compound is rated 70°C continuous with a 2,000V test voltage and EN 60332-1-2 flame retardancy, with an operating range of +5°C to +70°C in motion and a 160°C/5s short-circuit withstand. Each roll is 100m with export wooden case and pallet — standardised packaging across the entire harmonised building wire product line.

H05V-R/H07V-R is the contractor-grade single-core installation wire for European commercial and industrial electrical projects. Unlike the solid -U wire which stays where it's terminated, and the -K flexible wire which routes through complex panel interiors, the -R stranded wire is the general-purpose workhorse — ordered by the reel for conduit pulls, cable tray runs, and equipment feeder connections where reliability and ease of installation matter more than extreme flexibility. The 7-strand concentric lay is the most cost-effective stranding pattern in the copper building wire market, offering better conductivity per kg of copper than Class 5 flexible due to the lower wire-drawing and stranding manufacturing cost.

* Reference page anomalies: 0.75mm² is listed as "7/0.97" on the source page — mathematically 7 × 0.97mm would produce a 5.17mm² conductor, not 0.75mm². The correct value per EN 60228 Class 2 is 7 × 0.37mm (=0.75mm²). Corrected above. 1.0mm² lacks an insulation resistance value (—) on the source. 50mm² lists insulation resistance 0.005 Ω/km which is anomalous — expected ≤0.004 per the decreasing trend. The 1.5mm² row is the transition size appearing in both H05V-R (300/500V) and H07V-R (450/750V) voltage classes.
